Long time no see! Been busy with holidays and exams... It's also funny that I don't usually take a lot of pictures of my crafts, so I may have done loads of stuff, but I just dont post about it. Unfortunately, this time, I just haven't been doing much.
But, as soon as the exams were over, I finished this apron that's been in the making for quite some time. I wish I had done her in black as I had intended. And I am not happy with the black border clashing with the the blue embroidery edge (picture's not so great. You got to trust me on this!). Oh well, we can't have everything, I guess.

She's still a work in progress and the light's a little off, as this was taken at night. She is far from perfect. I was hoping to get better with each doll, but I think the opposite has happened! This little girl has non matching arms, flailing in completely different directions and non-matching legs. Oh well!

Hexagons are going into hibernation

I am finished with the hexagon blanket for now. It is on the sofa, strategically covering the tea stain and also making the sofa look nice and bright. I may want to add on some more hexagons in the future, but for now... it's finished. I spent last week sewing on about thirty hexagons onto the blanket. I think I have reached my limit!

Red Riding Hood Scarf

This was supposed to come out completely different.

Unplanned additions: fringes and ribbon.
Planned additions that were not added: granny squares sewn on to the ends.

That's why it's a little short. The granny squares were suppposed to lengthen it. But this wool was not cooperating with the crochet needle, I'm afraid. It's a nice warm wool, a nice and thick scarf. All done in simple knit stitch. Nothing fancy.

Recent Projects

I have started knitting again. I haven't done it since I was a child. I sort of lost interest because I wasn't very good at it, but I felt like a nice thick scarf and I realized I couldn't get what I wanted from crochet (But I still love you, Crochet!) So I bought some nice thick yarn and some new knitting needles and saw a few tutorials on youtube and this is what I have at the moment:

It's a nice bluish colour. I have some ideas for how to finish it off, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. For now, just the knitting is fine.

Hexagon Blanket II:

It's already adorning the sofa and looks great. But isn't finished yet. There are quite a lot of hexagons to get through yet.

A new x-mas ornament:

This was an experiment. Actually, I have quite a few experiments, but this was the one that came out the best. I want to make a few more, but at the moment, crafting is at a minimum. I am in study mode.
Well, I'm in semi-study mode. I can't seem to hit the books. I hate Economics and it's difficult to study something you loathe...

Someone wants a Hexagon blanket for Christmas

But this baby is all mine! It also takes a loooong time and a lot of wool just to get a small lap rug, which is more or less how big this is at the moment. I want to make this into a large blanket, but I think it will take me well into the new year.

I'm using really cheap wool, so the quality's not all that good, but it's ok for me (actually, it's for Sis, but it stays in the family!). I am also stitching all the hexagons instead of crocheting them together. It takes up more time, but it means I don't have to carry around the whole blanket with me and gives me more freedom to move the hexagons around as I like.

Most of my projects have been small and repetetive. It's not been boring, I just feel like having nice simple projects that I can make quickly and with no hassle at all. These are just the ticket:

Random projects

I bought an embroidery kit from sublime stitching. I wanted to try it out. I did this kitty cat in green. This is a slip stitch, I think! I can't keep track of the names of stitches. I'm just glad if I know how to do them.

My sister wanted to learn too, so I let her do a few. This one is in blue:

This is a kitchen cloth with two strips of aida which we have been using for our embroidery. I see now that aida isn't the best fabric for this sort of embroidery - it has those holes, which don't help much unless you're cross-stitching. But it's an experiment, I suppose.

Cross-stitching has been kept to a bare minimum. I'm making this pouch for a friend who is pregnant. They're staying in our house in Azeitão. Still not sure if it's a girl or a boy. They think/hope it's a girl. So I picked this pattern which seems gender-free.

I haven't cross-stitched in a while, but I need to. I have three projects started - two small, one largish; I'd like to finish the two small ones in the near future, if it's at all possible!

The other day, I was in one of the many cheep chinese stores you can find anywhere in Portugal. They had something I was dying to buy: suction cups! They're actually hooks with suction cups attached so you can fix them to the tiles of your kitchen or bathroom. But these ones in particular are great, because the hooks are removable.

I bought one packet of eight last week and have since bought two more packets. Just because I want to have as much as possible in case of an emergency! So, if you need a dozen suction cups in a hurry, call me!

Anyway, one went to attach my pig to the rear window of my car. My car now has three pigs!
And I've used two more. One is for a friend. I made this cute cat, inspired by one I saw in a store somewhere and would have cost me about 10 euros. I thought "I could make that!" And so here it is:

Please don't say it looks like an owl! It's a cat! He has a tail and whiskers!

I also had a few crocheted flowers hanging around. I made a couple more and sewed on some beads and crocheted leaves, joined them together. I was sort of experimenting and thinking how nice it would look on my uncle's gravestone. Not sure if I'll actually make one for him or if it's too corny...

How about a baby blue Mickey Mouse? I made one! One ear is a little bigger than the other, though! Oh well.

I also made a small pouch. I was putting everything into the one my sister "made" for my birthday last year. It was holding wools and finished objects and the suction cups... It was overflowing with stuff! Finally, I thought it better to get another pouch for FO's and such, and leave the original for wools only. So it came out like this:

The red border was discarded fabric from the cherry bag. The blue flowery one is super cute! I bought it at the same place as the red with white polka dots. And I'm going back there, of course!

As I had time on my hands, I made a second one for my sister. It is holding her crochet at the moment. (Note that her ribbon is red. Although you can't see it in the photo above, mine has a white ribbon. Again, odds and ends I had lying around)

And so, the other pouch is for wools only:

That bright orange just doesn't seem to want to go away! I love it!
And I'm using rubber bands to hold each ball of wool. The stray ends were getting on my nerves.

Oh, the contents of the new bag:

It's full of flowers, leaves, crocheted hoops... whatever I made and doesn't have a proper home yet!

These are a few projects:

A felt apple. I saw something like this on Etsy. Better made, and smaller. But I had to have one for myself. The crocheted pieces are one apple, two oranges and a lemon. They're really tiny and are hell to amke, but cute. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them yet, though. I have this idea of a Carmen Miranda doll. Or I could make an origami bowl to place the fruit in. Or earrings? Not sure...

Teeny tiny projects

I will invariably intersperse largish projects with smaller ones. I am on a crochet kick at the moment. This comes in bursts. So I am in the mood to experiment and make small crocheted objects. These objects will usually not even see the light of day. I will carry them in my projects bag until I can't bear to face them anymore and so I will hide them away with my other long forgotten projects. For your viewing pleasure:

A granny square. I want to make more, but unfortunately, I made this on the spur of the moment. If I tried to replicate it I would fail miserably!

2. A new ripple blanket, but a lot more thought out. With only three alternating colours.
3. And three cross-stitch projects in the making. But I stitch very slowly...

I wish there were more hours in the day.

A postcard I made for postcrossing:

A girl sent me a card (I am going to guess it was from Finland, as I only get postcards from there!) and I saw she liked cows, so I wanted to send her something back. I just got the idea in my head and I had to make this postcard, whether she wanted it or not!

I made him to go in my substitute car. Maybe tomorrow I can get my regular car back.

I started seeing these in loads of crafting blogs and had to make my own. It's not very colour coordenated, and the beginning is a bit crooked because I don't have any instructions and worked on a trial and error basis, but it seems to be on track now. My sister is hopefully getting me some more wool soon... Or I'll just go down there on my lunch break.
